Our Story
“One of George’s greatest pleasures in life was rising early in the morning, brewing his favorite cup of coffee, and waiting on the deck to greet the dawn light.”
Seguinlandia is the former home of the late local painter George William Baker II (1948-2023). One of George’s greatest pleasures in life was rising early in the morning, brewing his favorite cup of coffee, and waiting on the deck to greet the dawn light.
George was a gifted painter in oils for over 45 years. His interest in the fine arts led him to study the works of Picasso, Fragonard, Mary Cassatt and Winslow Homer. While he received no formal training, George practiced in his youth by replicating these artists’ works as his technical foundation in art and painting, and these artistic influences emerge in his work.
George was an avid traveler and painted in locations around the world, but he most enjoyed painting landscapes and seascapes on Monhegan Island and in the coastal areas around Georgetown. George would say that while he often painted the same view, every day offered a new perspective and a new painting.
